A young man with dark hair, glasses, and tattoos on his arms, wearing a black long-sleeve shirt, leaning against a wooden surface in a dimly lit room with wooden sculptures in the background.

Ian Cooper works in wood, shaping objects that hold and release light.

His pieces are built from solid material and carved selectively, allowing large areas to remain quiet while certain zones are opened and eroded. Light is contained within these forms, emerging slowly depending on position and distance.

The work moves between weight and absence, structure and opening. It is not symmetrical, not repeated, and not designed toward uniformity.

Each piece is made by hand in his Seattle studio.
